Essay humanizer: essay rewriter to humanize an AI essay

Your thesis, your evidence and your citations come through the rewrite as written. What changes is the sentence rhythm and the stock connectives that make a draft read like a model produced it.

Below: what an essay rewrite touches and what it must not, plus every free tier in this market measured against one 1,500 word college essay.

AI-pattern score

This is our own AI-pattern score, measured here on sentence rhythm, template phrases, vocabulary variety and passive voice. It is not a GPTZero, Turnitin, Originality.ai, Copyleaks or ZeroGPT result, and it does not predict one. Worth knowing: we also ask the rewrite to vary sentence length, drop template phrases and prefer the active voice, so some of the drop is built in. Read the two panels below, not just the number.

The short answer

An essay humanizer rewrites the three properties that make a model drafted essay recognizable: sentence length that barely varies, a small set of repeated academic connectives, and paragraphs built to one template. It changes how the essay reads, not what it argues, so your thesis, your evidence and your citations should come back untouched. The practical thing to know before choosing one is that a US college essay runs about 1,500 words, and most free tiers in this category are sized well below that. Of the seven tools measured on this page on September 2, 2026, two cannot process a single complete essay in a whole month, and one of them caps you at 150 words.

Last updated September 2, 2026. Every allowance and price below carries the date we read it on that vendor's own page.

One essay, seven free tiers

Which essay humanizers can actually take a whole essay

Vendors publish word allowances in the abstract, which makes them hard to compare. Here is the same set of published numbers divided by the length of one ordinary 1,500 word college essay. Nothing in this table is our estimate of anything: every figure is the vendor's own, with the date we read it.

Tool Published free allowance Fits a 1,500 word essay? Essays per month, free Checked
Undetected.ai (this site) 3 runs a day, up to 1,500 words a run, 9,000 words a month Yes, one paste 6 essays a month on the free account Sep 2, 2026
EssayDone 3 free uses, 5,000 words per input Yes, one paste 1 essay, because the vendor says a second and third run are needed Sep 2, 2026
HumanizeAI (humanizeai.co) 2,000 words a month Yes, one paste 1 essay, then 500 words left until the reset Sep 2, 2026
Solvely 500 words a day, no account No, 3 pastes across 3 days About 10 essays, if you plan 3 days ahead for each Sep 2, 2026
QuillBot 125 words per paraphrase No, 12 pastes Unmetered, but 12 pastes stitched back together each time Aug 10, 2026
WriteHuman 3 requests a month at 250 words, so 750 words No, half an essay in a whole month Zero complete essays Aug 4, 2026
BypassGPT 150 words a month No, one paragraph in a whole month Zero complete essays Aug 4, 2026

Two entries need their own line, because the published number is not the whole story. EssayDone allows a generous 5,000 words per input, so a full essay does go in at once. Its own page then explains that a single rewrite gives "around a 90% chance of passing" and that one or two further runs are what get you to "up to a 99% pass rate". Against a counter that reads "Free uses: 0 / 3", that is one essay, not three.

Solvely's 500 words a day is generous over a semester and awkward over a weekend. It means a 1,500 word essay is three sittings on three separate days, and rewriting a document in three chunks separated by 24 hours is how an essay ends up with a different voice in each third.

The honest summary of the whole table: free tiers in this market are sized to demonstrate the product, not to finish an assignment. That is a reasonable thing for a vendor to do. It is worth knowing before you paste in a draft that is due tomorrow.

What changes, what must not

What an essay rewriter touches

Most pages in this category describe the job as making writing "sound human", which tells you nothing about what is being altered in a document you are about to submit for a grade. This is the line by line version.

Part of your essay What happens Why
Your thesis and the order of your argument Preserved A rewrite that moves your points around has damaged the essay, not humanized it. The claim you are making and the sequence you make it in come through as written.
Citations and reference entries Preserved Author names, years, page numbers and the reference list survive verbatim. This is the single most common way an essay rewriter ruins an assignment, and it is worth testing on one paragraph before you trust a tool with the whole thing.
Direct quotations Preserved Quoted material has to come back word for word or it is no longer a quotation, and a paraphrased quote inside quotation marks is a real academic integrity problem rather than a cosmetic one.
Sentence length and rhythm Rebuilt Uniform sentence length is the strongest single tell that a model drafted a passage. Student writing swings between an eight word sentence and a forty word one, and model output mostly does not.
Stock academic connectives Replaced or cut "Moreover", "Furthermore", "Additionally", "In conclusion", "It is important to note". Models reach for the same two dozen joins far more often than undergraduates do, and most of them are carrying no meaning.
Paragraph shape Varied Topic sentence, three supports, tidy summary, repeated for eight paragraphs. Breaking that template is most of what makes an essay read like a person sat down and wrote it.
Facts, figures and dates the model invented Untouched A rewrite is a language operation and it verifies nothing. A fabricated statistic or a source that does not exist survives the rewrite completely intact, which is why the fact check has to happen before the humanizer, not after.

The process

How to humanize an essay from ChatGPT

01

Fact check the draft first

Confirm every figure, quotation and source exists before you rewrite anything. No humanizer on this page or any other will catch an invented citation, and a rewritten fabrication is still a fabrication.

02

Paste the essay and pick the academic tone

A 1,500 word essay goes in as one block here, which matters more than it sounds: rewriting in twelve fragments is how essays end up with a different voice in every third paragraph.

03

Read the two versions side by side

Our AI-pattern score sits on the original and on the rewrite, so you can see what moved. The score is our own measure of the patterns described above, not a reading from anybody else's scanner.

04

Check your citations survived

Skim the reference list and every quotation mark before you submit. This takes about a minute and it is the step people skip.

Before you paste an unpublished essay

What each vendor says happens to your text

An essay you have not submitted yet is unpublished work, and it is worth thirty seconds to find out where it goes. Two of the four essay-lane vendors we read on September 2, 2026 publish a retention statement and two do not.

HumanizeAI's own page states that it "does not store or retain any of your essays" and that content is erased after the transformation. Solvely says its humanizer "never stores your content or uses it for model training". EssayDone and EssayPro publish no statement either way on their humanizer pages, which is not evidence of anything except that you would have to read the privacy policy to find out.

Our position, so you can hold us to the same standard: your runs are saved to your account history so you can go back to them, and you can delete any of them whenever you want. That is a different trade than the two vendors above offer, and which one you want depends on whether you would rather be able to retrieve last week's rewrite or have it gone.

One line from EssayPro's page deserves credit in a market that mostly does not talk this way. Alongside the usual claims it says plainly that "no system can guarantee complete invisibility". That is true of every tool listed on this page, including ours.

Who uses one

Where an essay humanizer earns its place

Undergraduate coursework

The 1,500 to 2,000 word essay is the unit this whole category is priced around, and it is the length that breaks most free tiers. One paste, one read, one citation check.

Term papers and dissertations

Long-form work is where fragment rewriting shows most, because the voice drifts between sections. Rewrite by chapter rather than by paragraph and read the joins.

Personal statements and applications

Admissions readers are looking for a voice, so this is the one document where a rewrite can cost you more than it saves. Use it to smooth stiff phrasing, not to generate the story.

Graduate and professional writing

Literature reviews and methods sections carry dense citation. Test one paragraph and confirm the references come back untouched before you run the full document.

One caveat that applies to all four. A rewrite operates on language and verifies nothing, so if the draft contains a statistic the model invented or a source that does not exist, both survive the pass in perfect prose. The published false positive rates behind this whole category are worth reading for the same reason: the numbers are smaller than the marketing implies, in both directions.

Questions people ask

Essay humanizers, answered

What is an essay humanizer?

An essay humanizer is a rewriting tool that takes a draft a language model produced and rebuilds the properties that make model writing recognizable: sentence length that barely varies, a narrow set of repeated connectives, and paragraphs built to one template. It changes how the essay reads, not what it argues, so your thesis, evidence and citations come through unchanged.

How to humanize an essay written by AI

Check the facts and citations first, because no rewrite verifies them. Then paste the whole essay in one block rather than paragraph by paragraph, choose an academic tone, and read the rewrite against your original before you accept it. Finish by confirming every quotation and reference entry survived the pass intact.

Is there a free essay humanizer?

There are free tiers, and the useful question is whether any of them fits one essay. Read off each vendor's own page on September 2, 2026: BypassGPT gives 150 words a month, WriteHuman 750, HumanizeAI 2,000, and Solvely 500 a day. A single 1,500 word college essay exceeds two of those outright and consumes most of a third.

How much does an essay humanizer cost?

The paid entry point in this market sits between roughly $9 and $19 a month. HumanizeAI publishes $19 a month for its Pro tier, or $11 a month billed yearly, for 50,000 words. Our own plans are planned from $9 a month billed yearly for 15,000 words. EssayDone and Solvely publish no price on their humanizer pages at all.

Is using an essay humanizer cheating?

That depends entirely on what you ran through it, and your institution decides, not a tool vendor. Rewriting your own argument for clarity is ordinary editing. Passing off text you did not write or think as your own submission is not, and no rewriting step changes that. Read your course's academic integrity policy, because they now differ sharply between institutions.

Can Turnitin detect an AI humanizer?

Sometimes, and nobody can honestly quote you a rate. Turnitin has said it trains against "leading paraphraser and bypasser tools" while declining to name them, on the grounds that a published list "would make it easier for students to evade our system". Any essay humanizer quoting you a specific percentage against a detector it does not control is guessing.

Is essay humanizer legit?

The rewriting works; the marketing around it frequently does not. EssayDone is the clearest example we read on September 2, 2026: the page advertises a blanket outcome against twelve named detectors, then states underneath that one rewrite gives "around a 90% chance" and that one or two further runs get you to "up to a 99% pass rate". Judge these tools on published word caps, price and data handling, which are checkable.

Will an essay humanizer change my citations?

It should not, and this is the thing to test before you trust one with a finished assignment. Run a single paragraph containing an in-text citation and a direct quotation, then compare the two versions character by character. Author, year and page number should be identical and the quoted words should not have moved.

What is the best essay humanizer?

They all perform the same operation, so the deciding factors are the ones vendors publish: how many words go in per paste, how many words a month you get, what the tool does with your text afterwards, and price. Compare those four. Treat any detector percentage as marketing, because no vendor in this category has access to the detectors it names.

Run one paragraph and check your citations

Take a paragraph with an in-text citation and a direct quotation in it, run it, and compare the two versions. That single test tells you more about an essay rewriter than any claim on any of these pages, and it takes about a minute.
