QuillBot Refund and Cancel Subscription After the 3-Day Refund Ended

QuillBot dropped its 3-day money-back guarantee, and its pricing page now shows a 14-day one for new users. Who qualifies, the cancel steps, the EEA right, and what a chargeback costs you.

QuillBot no longer offers a refund window to US subscribers. The 3-day money-back guarantee that most guides still describe was removed between October 2025 and April 2026, and the help center now says refunds are issued only if required by law. Customers in the EEA and UK keep a 14-day right of withdrawal, and since early October QuillBot's pricing page, at least in the version served in Europe, also describes a 14-day money-back guarantee for new users. You can cancel at any time from Account Details, and Premium stays active until the end of the period you paid for.

Everything quoted below was read on September 24, 2026 from QuillBot's help center, the QuillBot Service Terms and the Learneo Terms of Service they point to. QuillBot is owned by Learneo, Inc., the company formerly known as Course Hero, which is why the refund rules for a paraphrasing tool live in a document with a different company's name on it.

Does QuillBot give refunds?

As a rule, not any more. The help article that answers the question, titled "Can I get a refund for Quillbot subscription?" and updated on September 23, 2026, reads:

You can cancel your subscription at any time by turning off auto renewal. You will continue to have Premium access through the end of your billing period. However, refunds are issued only if required by law and in accordance with Section 1 in our Terms of Service.

Section 1 there means section I of the Learneo Terms of Service, which says subscription fees "are charged upfront and nonrefundable" except as provided in writing or required by law. A separate clause adds that there are no refunds "for any unused portion of a subscription after a User Account has been deleted", so deleting your account does not get you money back either.

In practice QuillBot does sometimes refund, at its discretion. A complaint on the Better Business Bureau from August 2026 shows QuillBot first replying that "our policy is that we do not offer refunds", then, after the complaint was escalated, confirming it had "initiated a refund of $79.96 USD". That is a goodwill decision, not a right you can rely on.

What happened to the QuillBot 3-day money-back guarantee?

It existed, and it is gone. The same help article used to be titled "What is QuillBot's 3-day money back guarantee and how does it work?". An archived copy from October 11, 2025 promised to "issue a full refund within 3 days of purchase as long as you're still otherwise eligible", limited to first-time users and excluding Team plans. By the April 27, 2026 capture the article had been rewritten into the "only if required by law" text you see today.

This matters because a lot of pages still repeat the old policy, and autocomplete still suggests "quillbot refund 3 days" to people typing the question. If you subscribed recently on the strength of a 3-day guarantee you read about, the guarantee did not apply to your purchase. The live help article is the policy.

Is there a QuillBot 14-day money-back guarantee now?

Possibly, depending on where you buy. When we reopened quillbot.com/premium on October 6, 2026, its FAQ carried a question that was not there before, "What is Quillbot's 14-day money-back guarantee and how does it work?", answered like this:

If you are not satisfied with our services, you may request a refund under our 14-day money-back guarantee if you meet the following requirements: You are a new user. You have not received a refund from us in the past. Your request is made within 14 days of being charged.

QuillBot adds that it may ask for proof of purchase and deny requests in cases of suspected fraud, shared accounts or abuse of the guarantee. Two cautions before you count on it. The page was served to us in euros, so it may be the European version, and the US copy of the same page archived on September 21, 2026 had no such answer. The help article quoted above still says refunds are issued only if required by law. If the guarantee shows on the pricing page you buy from, take a screenshot of it at checkout; if you are already a subscriber asking for money back, quote it in your request and send it within 14 days of the charge.

What is QuillBot's refund policy in the EEA and UK?

The one real refund right QuillBot publishes is for consumers in Europe. The help article says:

As a consumer located in the European Economic Area (EEA) and UK, you have the right to withdraw within 14 days of purchase of your Quillbot subscription.

That is where the "quillbot refund 14 days" figure comes from. It is statutory consumer law, not a QuillBot guarantee, and it does not extend to US buyers. If you are in the EEA, the Learneo EU terms say you exercise it by letter or email to support@learneo.com, and you do not have to give a reason.

How to request a QuillBot refund if you think you qualify

There is no refund button and no dedicated form. Every route runs through a support ticket, an app store, or your card issuer, and the order matters.

For a goodwill request, be short and specific: the date and amount of the charge, the fact that you have not used Premium since, and what you are asking for. The BBB case above ended with a partial refund after QuillBot offered to "adjust" the subscription, so asking for a downgrade to monthly with the difference refunded is a request support is able to say yes to.

One warning before anyone reaches for a chargeback. The Learneo terms are blunt about it:

Once a dispute or chargeback is filed, we are unable to assist with billing questions or issue refunds. If you file a dispute or chargeback, we reserve the right to terminate your User Account.

So a card dispute ends the conversation with support and can cost you the account. If you were billed after canceling, it is still the right tool, and on a US credit card the Fair Credit Billing Act generally gives you 60 days from the statement to raise it. For a renewal you simply forgot, try support first.

How do I cancel my QuillBot subscription?

On the web it takes under a minute. From QuillBot's help article on cancelling Premium:

  1. Click your profile icon, the circle with your initial at the top right.
  2. Open Account Details and go to the Your Plan tab.
  3. Click Cancel subscription and confirm.

Check it worked: under Manage Subscription you should see a Resubscribe option and a status reading "Ends on" followed by a date. If your subscription is paused, you have to resume it before the cancel button appears, which catches people out.

If you subscribed through the app stores, cancel there instead. On iPhone it is Settings, then your name, then Subscriptions, then QuillBot. On Android it is the Play Store menu, then Subscriptions, then QuillBot. Deleting the app does not cancel anything.

Can I still use QuillBot Premium after I cancel?

Yes. Cancelling turns off auto-renewal rather than ending the plan. QuillBot's help center says "You'll still have Premium access until your billing cycle ends", and the service terms say you keep "the benefits of your current subscription until the end of your then-current subscription term." Because nothing is refunded for the remaining time, there is no reason to wait: cancel as soon as you know you will not renew.

Timing is the trap. The help center warns that a charge can go through if you cancel "even by a few minutes" after the renewal date. The renewal clause in the service terms is written in capitals for a reason:

IF YOU PURCHASE AN AUTOMATICALLY RENEWING SUBSCRIPTION ... AND DO NOT CANCEL IT AS SPECIFIED BELOW, YOUR SUBSCRIPTION WILL AUTOMATICALLY RENEW FOR A TERM EQUAL IN LENGTH TO THE PREVIOUS SUBSCRIPTION PERIOD

An annual plan renews for another year. Most of the refund complaints we read on Trustpilot are exactly this: an annual renewal the subscriber forgot about, refused because it was a valid renewal.

How much does QuillBot Premium cost?

The pricing page served us Premium at $8.33 a month billed annually, which is $99.95 a year up front. QuillBot's own pricing FAQ lists the other two cycles at $19.95 billed monthly and $39.95 billed every three months. Some third-party pages quote higher annual figures, and QuillBot runs frequent promotions, so treat the checkout screen as the final word. The practical point for refunds is simple: annual billing is where the money is, and it is the cycle with the least flexibility once the charge goes through.

If QuillBot seats are billed to a company card as one line among dozens of software renewals, it helps to route them through accounts payable software so a renewal gets approved by someone before it is paid rather than noticed afterwards. That single habit prevents most of the complaints on this page.

Should you pause instead of canceling?

Sometimes. QuillBot lets individual subscribers pause for 30, 60 or 90 days, which suits a student who only needs it during term. Pausing is not available on Team plans or app-store subscriptions, and a paused plan still resumes and bills automatically, so it only makes sense if you are sure you are coming back.

If you are leaving because the humanizer did not do the job

A noticeable share of recent QuillBot complaints are not about billing at all. They are about the AI Humanizer, which QuillBot bundles into Premium alongside the paraphraser. The two tools do related but different jobs. A paraphraser rewords sentences one at a time and keeps the structure. Humanizing an AI draft means changing the rhythm and predictability of the whole passage, which is what AI detectors actually measure. We compared the two bundled humanizers in QuillBot vs Grammarly AI humanizer pricing, and the wider picture is on our QuillBot alternative page.

If humanizing is what you actually need, a dedicated tool is the honest fix. Ours takes up to 1,500 words in a single run on every plan, is priced in plain words from $24 a month billed yearly ($49 monthly), and shows our own AI-pattern score before and after each rewrite with the reasons behind the number. No humanizer can show you a Turnitin or GPTZero verdict in advance, and we do not pretend to. Try it on the draft that QuillBot did not fix, in the box at the top of this page, before you pay anyone else. Prices for every plan are on the pricing page.

The short version

  • US refunds: none by policy. Refunds are "issued only if required by law". Goodwill adjustments happen but are discretionary.
  • The 3-day guarantee: removed between October 2025 and April 2026. Pages that still mention it are out of date.
  • EEA and UK: a 14-day right of withdrawal, by email to support@learneo.com.
  • Canceling: profile icon, Account Details, Your Plan, Cancel subscription. App-store plans cancel in the store.
  • After canceling: Premium runs to the end of the paid period. Annual plans renew for a full year if you miss the date.
  • Chargebacks: allowed by your card, but the terms say they end support and can close the account. Use them for real billing errors.
