Monica AI Cancel Subscription and Refund Rules After the August 2026 Change
Monica cancels from the subscription page or your app store, and its payments are final except by law or at its discretion. What the August 2026 cancellations meant for your money.

To cancel Monica on the web, open your subscription management page and click unsubscribe under Current Plan; if you subscribed in the Android or iPhone app, cancel in Google Play or in Apple Settings. Monica's payments are final and non-refundable except at its discretion or under EU, UK and Turkish withdrawal rights. Cancelling stops the next renewal and you keep the plan until the period ends.
We read Monica's help center, its refund notice and its terms on October 9, 2026, together with its pricing page. This guide is for someone paying for Monica who wants out, or who got an email in August about cancelled subscriptions and wants to know where their money went. It is written by Undetected.ai, a competing AI humanizer. We cannot cancel or refund anything for you; only Monica can. Our Monica AI humanizer review covers the plans and what the credits buy.
How do I cancel my Monica AI subscription?
Use the route that matches where you paid. The charge on your card or the receipt in your email tells you which one.
- Paid on the Monica website. Monica's help center says to "click unsubscribe to enter the subscription management page, and then click unsubscribe under the Current Plan". You reach that page from your account settings while logged in at monica.im.
- Subscribed in the Android app. Open Google Play, tap your profile icon, then Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions, pick Monica and tap Cancel subscription.
- Subscribed on an iPhone or iPad. Open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, pick Monica and tap Cancel Subscription. If there is no button, it is already cancelled.
- None of these works. Monica's terms (section 4.1) also accept a cancellation by email to contact@monica.im. Send it from the address on the account and ask for a written confirmation.
Deleting the app does not cancel anything, and neither does deleting the account if you pay through Apple or Google. Cancel the subscription first, confirm it is cancelled, then delete the account if you want your data gone.
What happens after I cancel Monica?
The plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for and then does not renew. Monica's help center puts it as: "your current subscription will not be automatically renewed after it expires." The terms add that "You will not receive a refund for fees already paid for the current subscription period", so a yearly plan cancelled in month two still runs, and is still paid for, until month twelve.
One detail is easy to miss. Monica refills its member credits "at 0:00 UTC on the 1st of each month", not on your billing date. If your plan ends mid-month, the last allowance you get is the one issued on the 1st. Spend what you need before the period ends, because nothing in the help center or the terms says unused credits carry over.
Does Monica AI give refunds?
As a rule, no. The terms (section 4.3) say payments for subscriptions, credits and other paid features are "final and non-refundable". Monica may "consider a partial refund request in exceptional circumstances" at its "sole discretion". Here is how that sorts the requests people actually make.
| Your situation | Refund? | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| You live in the EU, the UK or Turkey and bought within the last 14 days | Yes, by law | Email contact@monica.im and say you are withdrawing |
| Changed your mind, US buyer | Discretionary | Ask, briefly, with the receipt; expect a partial refund at best |
| The humanizer output was not what you hoped | Discretionary | Same; the terms do not treat it as a refund ground |
| Forgot to cancel before a renewal | Usually no | Cancel now so the next one does not happen, then ask |
| Your subscription was cancelled in the August 2026 change | Depends on your renewal date | See the next section |
| An approved refund has not arrived after three weeks | Already approved | Email payment@monica.im with the receipt |
| A charge you never authorized | Not a Monica refund case | Contact your card issuer |
Approved refunds go back to the original payment method in 1 to 15 business days, according to the help center. When it lands, it may show under the name of the payment processor rather than Monica, so before you report a missing refund, check the statement line by line. If you track subscriptions for a small business, a tool that can match each refund against your bank statement saves you from chasing a credit that already posted.
Why did Monica cancel my subscription in August 2026?
Monica's help center says Monica, "along with Manus, is a product of Butterfly Effect, which will soon resume operating as an independent company". As part of that change, and "to comply with regulatory requirements in specific jurisdictions", Monica deleted data created since December 29, 2025 for users in affected regions. It does not name the regions. Notices went out on August 11, 2026, the backup deadline was 7:59 AM Singapore time on August 23, and the service reopened on August 25.
The notice sorted accounts into three types:
- Type A, account created before December 29, 2025 with no later subscription: the account stays, recent conversation data is deleted.
- Type B, account created before that date with a subscription started after it: the account stays, data is deleted, and the subscription is cancelled or refunded.
- Type C, account created after December 29, 2025: the account and all its data are deleted.
For cancelled subscriptions, the renewal date decides the money. If your renewal fell after 8:00 AM Singapore time on August 23, 2026, Monica cancelled the plan and refunds the unused portion pro rata to the original payment method. If it fell on or before that time, the plan was cancelled with no refund, and the same benefits continued free until the cutoff. Monica says no action is needed unless it contacts you. Card and web payments go back to the original method first, Google Play refunds are automatic, and Apple refunds are handled with Apple directly. If an automatic refund fails, Monica emails a one-time encrypted proof and manual instructions; keep that email until the money arrives.
Monica also says plainly that it "is not shutting down". If you are outside the affected regions, nothing changed for you. If you are inside them and want to keep using Monica, its help page says new payments and renewals were "temporarily suspended in affected regions during the transition", so check your plan status before assuming a renewal went through.
Can I dispute a Monica charge with my bank?
You can, but try Monica first and keep every email. The terms put US users into binding individual arbitration with a class action waiver, with 30 days from first accepting the terms to opt out, and the governing law is Singapore's. None of that stops your card issuer from handling an unauthorized charge, but a chargeback over a charge you did authorize, opened without asking Monica first, is hard to win and can end with the account closed.
What to look for in your next humanizer
Many people paying for Monica mainly use its humanizer, and that is where its pricing is weakest. Every 10 humanized words cost 1 Advanced Credit, so Pro at $99 a year covers at most 15,000 words a month, and only if you spend the credits on nothing else. Before you pay for a replacement, ask three questions:
- Is the word allowance yours, or shared with chat, images and other tools?
- Can you cancel from your own account, without emailing anyone?
- Can you see a full result before paying, so a refund policy is never your only test?
Undetected.ai is a dedicated humanizer. You cancel from your account at any time, and you can run a passage of your own and see our AI-pattern score before and after before paying anything. Be clear on the trade: our payments are non-refundable except where the law requires, which is why that free passage exists. Plans start at $24 a month billed yearly for 100,000 words, with 1,500 words per run. That is a bigger bill than Monica Pro and a lower price per humanized word than any Monica plan. If price per word is what matters most, the cheapest AI humanizer ranking shows where everyone lands.
