AI-pattern score

This is our own AI-pattern score, measured here on sentence rhythm, template phrases, vocabulary variety and passive voice. It is not a GPTZero, Turnitin, Originality.ai, Copyleaks or ZeroGPT result, and it does not predict one. Worth knowing: we also ask the rewrite to vary sentence length, drop template phrases and prefer the active voice, so some of the drop is built in. Read the two panels below, not just the number.

QuillBot Premium listed at "$8.33 USD Per month, billed annually" on its own Premium page when we read it on August 22, 2026, against a free tier that caps paraphrasing at 125 words, humanizing at 125 words and six uses a day, and AI detection at 1,200 words a scan. There is also a Team Plan whose price QuillBot does not display on that page. One caveat we can only give you because we loaded the page more than once: the same URL served us $10.00 a month billed annually on one load and $8.33 on three others within the same hour, so check the figure from your own connection before you commit to a year.

That last point is not a gotcha. Subscription pages in this category test prices constantly, and a number copied from a review published six months ago is worth nothing. Everything below was read on QuillBot's own pages on August 22, 2026, and every place QuillBot declines to publish a number is marked as such rather than filled in with a guess.

QuillBot attaches one footnote to that whole table, and it is worth reading: "Limits may vary across platforms". The web app, the desktop and mobile apps and the browser extensions are not guaranteed to enforce the same ceilings, so a limit you hit in one place may behave differently in another.

What the free tier actually gives you

Two numbers do most of the work here, and almost every write-up of this product quotes only the first one. The paraphraser and the humanizer both stop at 125 words per pass. The humanizer carries a second limit on top of that: six uses per day. Multiply them and a free QuillBot account will rewrite 750 words in a twenty-four hour period, in six separate chunks, and then stop until tomorrow.

For short work that is genuinely fine. A cover letter, an abstract, a difficult paragraph in an email, a LinkedIn post: each of those fits inside one pass. For anything article-length it is a different story. A 2,000-word draft is sixteen paraphrase passes, and if you are humanizing rather than paraphrasing it is three days of allowance. People who describe the free tier as unusable are usually describing that arithmetic rather than the output quality.

The free AI detector is sized differently, and the mismatch is the most interesting thing on QuillBot's price sheet. It accepts up to 1,200 words per scan and requires at least 80, because short samples produce unreliable readings. So a free account will read your entire 1,200-word essay and tell you it looks machine-written, then hand you a rewriting tool that works 125 words at a time. Diagnosis is generous, treatment is rationed. That is a rational way to build a funnel, and knowing it changes how you should use the free tools: scan the whole document once, find the paragraphs that come back flagged, and spend your six daily passes only on those.

Is QuillBot Premium worth it?

It comes down to one question you can answer in about a minute: how many words do you rewrite on a normal working day? Under a few hundred, the free tier holds and paying is a waste. Above 750, you are already over the ceiling, and the cost of staying free is paid in tab-switching, split paragraphs and half-finished drafts rather than in dollars.

At $8.33 a month billed annually the Premium bundle is priced well for what it contains, and it is worth being clear about that even on a site that sells a competing product. You are not buying an unlimited humanizer alone. You get unlimited paraphrasing with custom modes, a grammar checker, a summarizer, a citation generator, a plagiarism check capped at 25,000 words a month, an AI detector without the free scan limit, and the ability to humanize inside ChatGPT and Gemini instead of leaving the tab. It is worth knowing that this is the only plan in the category that publishes no word limit on humanizing; the rivals advertising "unlimited" are counting something else. Very few tools in this market bundle that much for under ten dollars.

The honest counter-argument is that most people buy it for one of those tools and use one of those tools. If you know which one, price that job on its own. And if writing is how you actually earn, the more useful exercise is putting the whole software stack next to what your writing brings in each month: a hundred dollars a year against a single paid commission is nothing, and against nothing it is a hundred dollars.

How much is QuillBot Premium per year?

QuillBot advertises the monthly-equivalent figure rather than the annual total, which is standard practice and mildly annoying. At $8.33 a month billed annually the arithmetic lands just under a hundred dollars for twelve months. We are deliberately not printing a specific annual total here, because QuillBot did not render one on the page we read, and a total we calculated ourselves would be presented as if we had verified it. Check the number at the checkout step, which is where the real figure appears.

That is the same reason we do not quote a QuillBot month-to-month price anywhere on this site. The Premium page shows only the annual-billing figure. Every "QuillBot costs X per month" line you find in a listicle either came from a checkout somebody did not screenshot, or from another listicle.

Two things fall out of that table. The first is that QuillBot is not competing on price with the humanizer specialists, it is competing on breadth: Undetectable.ai undercuts it and throws in an API. The second is that expiring credits are the trap to watch. A plan quoted in credits that reset every month is not the same purchase as a plan quoted in words, and a light month subsidises the vendor rather than banking you anything. The full ladder for the closest competitor is on the Undetectable.ai pricing page, and the wider field is compared on the best AI humanizer page.

What the price does not buy you

No amount of money in this category buys a guaranteed detector score, and QuillBot is careful never to imply otherwise. Its humanizer page makes no bypass claim at all. Its detector page advertises a "99% detection rate, according to independent evaluations from RAID", which is a real benchmark published at ACL in 2024 across more than six million generations, and whose own paper concludes that detectors are easily fooled by adversarial attacks. Both things are true: strong performance on clean machine text, much weaker performance on text that has since been rewritten.

QuillBot's detector page adds a line that more vendors should copy. When a result is unclear, it says, the model tends to classify text as human written, which reduces false positives. That is a deliberate bias, stated plainly, and it is a better piece of documentation than most of this industry publishes. The mechanics underneath all of it, including why a "90 percent AI" score does not mean ninety percent of the document, are set out in how AI detectors work.

The other thing the price does not buy is a fix for a weak draft. A paraphraser changes wording and a humanizer changes rhythm. Neither adds evidence, repairs a thin argument or checks a fact, and a fabricated citation survives both in better prose, which is worse rather than better because it now reads convincingly.

Frequently asked

How much does QuillBot cost? The free tier is $0 with published caps. Premium listed at $8.33 a month billed annually on August 22, 2026, and a Team Plan exists whose price QuillBot does not show on the Premium page. We saw $10.00 a month billed annually served from the same URL once the same day, so verify before you buy.

Does QuillBot have a free plan? Yes, permanently, and it is capped rather than time-limited. Paraphrase up to 125 words, humanize up to 125 words with six uses a day, and scan up to 1,200 words in the AI detector with an 80-word minimum.

Is there a QuillBot student discount? QuillBot does not display one on its Premium page. If you are buying as a student, check the checkout page from a university connection rather than trusting a coupon site, and treat any "free premium account" offer as what it usually is.

What is the difference between QuillBot free and Premium for humanizing? Free gives you basic humanizing at 125 words a pass, six passes a day, with no history and limited insights. Premium gives you "No word or usage limit", advanced humanizing, humanize history, and the tool inside ChatGPT and Gemini. The full breakdown is on our QuillBot AI humanizer page.

Is QuillBot Premium better value than Grammarly? They are different purchases. QuillBot publishes its free limit and removes it for a stated price. Grammarly gives its humanizer a free tier and never says how big it is, but bundles six languages and a custom voice trained on 200 words of your own writing. The head-to-head is in QuillBot humanizer vs Grammarly humanizer.

The short version

QuillBot Premium at $8.33 a month billed annually is fair value for a six-tool writing suite, and the free tier is genuinely usable if your work arrives in pieces smaller than 125 words. The number that should decide it for you is 750: that is how many words a free account will humanize in a day, and the moment your normal week runs past it, you are paying in friction instead of money. Verify the price on the day you buy, because we watched it move within an hour, and ignore any vendor in this market who tells you what score their rewrite will earn.
